Webinar: Cyber Essentials – The Questions That Law Firms Want Answering

And what’s changing in 2020

Even with £millions continuing to be fraudulently redirected, with the associated reputational impact and knock on effect on professional indemnity insurance premiums, most law firms have not implemented even the most basic cyber security measures.

After conducting our own research of 100 law firms, we discovered that 82% of those we spoke to, didn’t have the Government recommended Cyber Essentials Accreditation, leaving the door wide open for criminals to exploit.

Cyber Essentials identifies fundamental technical security controls that an organisation must have in place to help defend against internet-borne threats. These include boundary firewalls and internet gateways, secure configuration, access control, malware protection and patch management.

When implemented fully, it can protect a business from low and mid-level attacks, helping to guard against the most common cyber threats. Almost 50% of UK businesses suffered a cyber attack last year and according to the SRA, in the first six months of 2019, law firms reported a loss of £731,250 of client money to this type of crime.

In our upcoming webinar, Tom Lyes (Key Relationship Manager) and Jen Williams (Head of IT) want to answer the questions they’re regularly asked about Cyber Essentials, including:

  • Where do I start with choosing a Cyber Essentials Assessor?
  • What is involved in the accreditation process?
  • Who needs to complete the assessment?
  • How long should it take?
  • How much should we budget?
  • What does the assessment look at?
  • What is the National Cyber Security Centre changing regarding the accreditation process next year?
